INFORMATION ON OTTER LAKE, SEGUIN
Otter Lake is a natural spring fed head water lake which consistently tests among one of the cleanest of all lakes in Ontario and is a great swimming lake! Maximum depth is 148 feet. Average depth is 35 feet. Houses 9 islands: Bluebell, Delta, Fair, Angel, Rusholme, Round Sentinel, Snake, Robinson. There are several segments to the lake. The ‘Long Arm” is a long, narrow portion which goes to the east. The “Little Long Arm” protrudes to the west. The “Little Otter Lake” part is to the north, separated from the rest of the lake by the Otter Lake Narrows. The water level is controlled by a dam at the outflow to the Boyne River at the Little Otter portion of the lake…the water level only seems to vary about 8 inches up and down. There are over 400 cottages on the lake.
The Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian National Railway main lines both pass the lake, the former at Otter Lake Narrows and the latter on the north shore of the lake.
Otter Lake is well known for it’s 2 resorts. One at the end of the Long Arm called “Sunny Point Resort” which is a family owned and operated 5 star resort with cottage rentals and motel rental, has a beach, boat rentals, water trampoline and more. The other is the “Grand Tappattoo Resort”, beach resort with a fitness centre, a sauna, 62 rooms with fireplaces, WiFi and balconies, a state of the art restaurant, an indoor pool, wedding services, meeting rooms and a conference centre.
Otter Lake has a Ratepayers’ Association (OLRA) which has been in existence since 1962. The OLRA membership supports the efforts to protect these beautiful lakes. Members are entitled to receive informative newsletters, notices of issues and events, stand for election to the Board and participate in surveys.
